When a young Superintendent hears complaints about green firmness, he focuses on moisture management; when an experienced Superintendent hears complains about green firmness, he thinks about thatch, mowing height, turf type, turgidity, turf density, stolon density, rhizome density, root density, verdure, organic matter, bulk density, particle size, particle shape, particle distribution, porosity, and moisture content…and his head begins to hurt and his heart grows wary…and he tries to limit his thoughts to moisture management.
